BTS - with make up tutor Ruth Marcella Photoshoot for Phillip Armstrong in liverpool

Ruth Marcella, make up artist tutor at Ella Creative Academy, recently had the opportunity to work as the hair and make up artist on a shoot for Phillip Armstong’s SS collection in Liverpool. We take a behind-the-scenes look with Ruth!

Ruth began her day by discussing the looks that the designer wanted to achieve. She had received a creative brief before so had packed her kit full of appropriate products – they chose a clean modern look with emphasis on the eyes (and neutral colours) as the clothes from the collection feautured many different tones.

Next it was time to begin hair and makeup – starting with the models’ skin, Ruth skinned prepped using Simple Cleanser and Skin Food Moisturiser ready for the make up.

Once satisfied with each model’s hair and makeup looks, it was time for the photoshoot itself. Each girl looked stunning; Ruth stepped in when needed to help adjust or change any details on their look. On a shoot with lot’s of clothing changes its important to stay close by to run onto set to fix hair or make up. As a make up artist its your job to keep the models looking great on camera … Make up artists often use the laptop or screen to see how the make up is working in shot.
